About the Author:

Ms. Bruno was a team player in high  school, enjoying field hockey, soccer, and basketball. After a distinctly non-athletic college career and early adult life, she became interested in  running and later in multisport events as a way of controlling weight  and sharing time with her husband, a former college football player and  sportsmedicine orthopaedic surgeon. After almost twenty years in the  sport, she has completed eleven marathons, two ultra-marathons,  numerous road races, duathlons, and triathlons. She has been selected All  American several years, earned the silver and bronze medals in the  World Championship short-  and long-course duathlon and been on the American team in the short-course triathlon in Australia and Cancun, and  was ranked first American  grand master (over 55) duathlete in 2002. She  finished fifth in her age group in the 1987 World Championship Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon and sixth in 2002 and will compete on the American team in  the World Championship short-course triathlon in Madiera, Portugal, in 2004.  When her children were teenagers, the author went back to earn a masters degree in nursing because of her interest in women's health and  nutrition and worked as a nurse practitioner. She has written articles and spoken on panels about osteoporosis, nutrition, and exercise and enjoys  sharing her interests with other women.  The Brunos spend their  time in  Nashville, Tennessee, and Crested Butte, Colorado.
